Cystocele, Rectocele, Enterocele, and Incontinence with Surgical Repairs
An animation showing a cystocele, rectocele, and enterocele with surgical repairs in a female patient. Normal female anatomy in this view includes the ascending colon, descending colon, uterus, bladder, urethra, vagina, and the rectum. This patient has previously undergone a hysterectomy and is presenting with a cystocele, rectocele, and enterocele which is causing urinary incontinence. The cystocele repair procedure encompasses reducing the anterior vaginal wall and reinforcing it with sutures. The rectocele repair involves reducing the posterior vaginal wall and reinforcing it with sutures. The enterocele repair procedure reduces the bowel back into the proper position and closes the enterocele sac with sutures. A transobturator sling is also inserted around the base of the bladder, providing support for the urethra.
