Multiple Myeloma

Multiple Myeloma

On the left side of the exhibit, we show a spine with 2 cut-outs at T10 and T11. From the top cut out we show the progression of healthy myeloid stem cells to healthy plasma cells that secrete antibodies. We show how the stem cells mature into B lymphocytes that engulf antigens and then mature into plasma cells in the blood. From the bottom cut out, we show the progression of multiple myeloma. We start with multiple myeloma stem cells that differentiate into abnormal B lymphocytes, which mature into abnormal plasma cells. These plasma cells rapidly multiply and do not fight infection.
