Progression of DVT

Progression of DVT

The cross-sectional view of a leg vein showing the progression of deep vein thrombosis (DVT). DVT occurs when a small clot (thrombus) forms due to damage or reduced blood flow. The clot enlarges, partially obstructing blood flow and a part of the clot breaks off to join the bloodstream as an embolus.
